Description of Board Positions

President
Administer chapter business.
Represent chapter at inter-chapter activities.
Prepare calendar and agenda for board and membership meetings.
Finalize committee appointments.
Delegate responsibilities.
Communicate board’s actions to membership.
Ensure one business meeting and two programs each year.
Plan for officer transition.
Arrange officer/committee orientation meeting.
Ensure submission of reports to headquarters.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures.
Meet with leaders of institution of higher education and community organizations.


President Elect
Perform presidential duties in president’s absence.
Serve as committee chair as needed.
Prepare annual report regarding activities for membership.
Succeed into presidential office until next election if president vacates his/her position.
Communicate honor society’s purposes to public.
Oversee process for completing and submitting Chapter Key Award application.
Learn chapter operations.
Facilitate achievement of chapter goals and mission.
Succeed into presidency.


Director of Programs
Plan chapter programs
Ensure two scholarly programs are held each year
Coordinate the induction of new members
Coordinate with Director of Research for research conferences or
research day activities.


Director for Development and Resources
Collaborate with others to evaluate income sources and determine financial needs.
Oversee development of funding strategies for projects/activities.
Manage implementation of fund-raising events and ensure effective publicity.
Coordinate donation of goods or services.
Solicit membership participation for events.
Participate in events.
Oversee evaluation of events.


Director for Research
Oversee development, review and revision of research award and research grant criteria.
Manage review of abstracts for research awards and proposals for research grants.
Coordinate chapter research conferences or research day activities.
Manage development of promotional strategies for conducting research and disseminating and utilizing research findings.
Recruit candidates for research awards.
Assist candidates with application process for research awards.


Treasurer
Be responsible for chapter funds.
Prepare and present quarterly financial reports during board meetings.
Prepare and submit annual budget to board.
Prepare and submit “Annual Chapter Finance Report.”
Submit biennial audit to headquarters.
Write checks for international induction fees and jewelry and honor cord orders.
Manage investment plan.
Develop and maintain fiscal policies and procedures.

Secretary
Record and write meeting minutes.
Distribute minutes to board and members.
Keep official record book of minutes and give to succeeding secretary.
Prepare annual report for membership.
Submit “Chapter Officer/Committee Chair Report” to headquarters
Order stationary, forms and labels.
Prepare and mail chapter correspondence.
Send membership invitations to eligible candidates.
Serve on committees as needed.


Counselor (Faculty Advisor)
Requirement: Must be a faculty member of SDSU School of Nursing.
Chair Governance Committee.
Lead procedure to identify eligible membership candidates and induction of new members.
Develop strategies to publicize membership eligibility criteria.
Secure data necessary to determine student eligibility and notify eligible students.
Manage or delegate oversight of chapter bylaws changes.


Leadership Succession Committee (Chair):
Develop members in organizational leadership roles.
Mentor members to assume positions at all levels.
Oversee member selection
Manage preparation, distribution and tallying of election ballots.
Notify all candidates of election results.

Membership Communicator
Oversee promotion of membership renewal and involvement.
Manage membership involvement in committees, advisory councils and task forces.
Oversee development and implementation of new member mentoring program.
Plan and implement new, dual and transfer member orientation program.
Oversee development of strategies to track new and inactive members.

-Maintain member database

-Communicate to membership through writing and email

Webmaster (appointed position)
Maintain chapter website

Editor Gamma Ray Newsletter (appointed position)
